Corona Virus : Unemployment, business losses. What should you do now?

Dear Reader,

Welcome to my blog. My name is Shiva Krishnan and I am an author, social media marketer, a blogger and  a Youtube Video creator ( this is my Channel link https://youtu.be/92POg6j2bac

I will provide a brief overview of my blog. My blog is about tips and stories that help people and my blog is for those who are in search of positive,  powerful, empowering, inspiring stories, Tips related to sales and marketing and most importantly those who are looking to solve a problem.

Now before you read this blog I would like to remind you that my blog is not for those who are seeking grammatical perfection. Having said this, I would do my best to ensure that anyone reading this blog is able to understand my blog.

So let's dive into my second blog about the current scenario i.e coronavirus, diseases related to COVID 19 and deaths related to COVID 19, unemployment, business losses etc. Now I am not a doctor or medical representative or health expert and therefore I will not talk much about anything related to the field of medicine.  However, I would certainly point out one thing that our mental health certainly has an influence on our physical health too. Under heavy stress, one cannot do well in life even if he or she does not have symptoms of COVID 19. Now we have heard a lot about staying safe and taking care of ourselves an almost unlimited number of times.  Whether you go online or offline, the first thing you hear is related to COVID 19. Most of us by now are used to extraordinary hygiene-related measures due to the current hysteria such as washing hands using sanitizers almost 50 times a day or perhaps more than that, taking bath more than twice and much more.   Fair enough and I understand all these and I do hear your concerns, frustration and fears of many including my friends.

So most of you feel like asking " Hey dude what are you trying to communicate? Are you giving some boring bullshit lecture ( in Hindi bekar ka gyaan baat Raha hai kya)? No certainly not. So I am emphasizing this again what I just mentioned in the introduction i.e I will share positive, powerful, empowering and inspiring stories and most importantly how we can solve the problem related to unprecedented levels of unemployment and business losses. Quite honestly I have also been terminated from my job thanks to the courtesy of global lockdown and this is the first time I am hearing about such a thing called " Global lockdown"

Alright, I sense your urgency to know what am I trying to communicate? So without any further explanation, I will share an unbelievable story of survival which I hope would rejuvenate your spirits and may give you some hope and  I will also share helpful tips at the end of this blog which is directly related to business and survival. Sounds cool?

Ok here is the story that really sent chills down my spine and this is the story of that man who had survived against all the odds thrown against him.  In fact, there was a time in his life wherein death was 100 % certain yet he survived.  This is the story of a man called Steve Callahan who was stuck in an open ocean in a liferaft with no access to pure drinking water for 76 days and adding to the twist and threat, a shark had bumped into his life raft piercing a hole in it. This is a real story and it is from New York Times best-selling book called Adrift: 76 Days lost at Sea.

Now I am sure most of you know that a liferaft is not a boat in technical terms but it is an emergency boat ( Titanic is the best example of this).

A Liferaft is meant for survival in an emergency situation in case of a ship that is sinking and at the most one can survive in a Liferaft for 4, 5 or 7 days at the extreme.  But not more than that.
Let me ask you how can a man survive if he is stuck in a liferaft with little food supplies left? You may say that he caught fishes to feed himself. Fair enough, what about drinking water? One cannot drink the seawater and if one does so then that means guaranteed death due to dehydration.

So the key question that comes to one's mind is " How the hell did he survive?" Yes while I was watching his documentary I also was baffled at the same thought. He had solar stills in a container that had emergency supplies. Now before you rejoice, it was not an easy task to obtain drinking water with the help of this solar still. Initially, when he tried for a few times it did not work and just imagine how desperate must have been to quench his thirst.  Surely we take water for granted but just try to be in his situation for a while wherein pure drinking water became luxury. So after several failed attempts guess what would most of us think? Most of us, if we were in his situation at that point of time, may have had thoughts like these " Well now it is over and this is my last day, last hour, last breath " " I better start thinking about the famous last wish " " I cannot carry on " " Oh I give up " " Surviving is now impossible " Some of you may think he must have called someone or there was a ship nearby to rescue him.

Well, he certainly did not have a communication system and even for the military to rescue him, the military needs a strong medium of communication and his exact position at Sea. However, in his case, odds and fate was against him and. He did spot a ship during his first week but the ship failed to notice him and what seemed like a chance of survival had gone against him.

Despite his frustration with the fact that the ship had failed to spot him and he was unable to produce drinking water with the help of solar stills, he refused to give up. He did not cave in.  Somehow Steve Callahan decided to gather some courage and had decided to give a try at the prospect of obtaining pure drinking water that was vital for his survival.

Finally, he managed to get the solar still to work and thus his problem of obtaining pure drinking water was resolved and his hope of survival looked somewhat bright and possible.

As he started rejoicing at his renewed hopes of survival, he faced another threat to his survival and this time it was a big shark that had made a fierce attempt in tearing his liferaft apart. Even in imagination, this is so intimidating that most of us will not be able to imagine that we could survive. His liferaft got torn and well he had death waiting at his doorsteps.  His courage at such a situation is very admirable as he somehow held onto to the liferaft and before death could lay his cold hands on him and strangle him, Steve immediately had started sewing his liferaft and made a second attempt to survive. It must have been his quick response and constant alertness that prompted him to take action that could assure his survival.

By now 2 weeks had passed and he continued with his routine of fishing and obtaining pure drinking water with the help of solar stills. He was still in a risky situation and unlike earlier scenario, if 4 or 5 sharks would have attacked his liferaft then he definitely would have breathed his last and would have surrendered himself to the mighty ocean. Each passing day meant life or death and finally, after a long duration of 76 days at Sea, a group of Fishermen had spotted him and had rescued him to the shore.

An extremely inspiring story to give us hope that we too can make it despite all odds stacked against us and so the  story of Steve Callahan can help us in deriving four major conclusions

A) Have a never give up  attitude towards life and your goals

B) Communicate even if it is with yourself

C) Take action

D) Make use of tools around you that aid your survival.

So as mentioned earlier here are few tips that are directly proportional and related to your business and survival. Yes, business and survival go hand in hand as my mentor Grant Cardone says " You are business " and I completely agree with him. The reason I say that is even a pauper i.e beggar is part of a  business. You ask how? Well, he is seeking money and everything that has to do with money is part of the word" business"  So those who do not have a job and those who are threatened by business losses, please go through following tips that can possibly help you to make money. These tips can either be a combination or used solo

A) Create a YouTube Channel and promote it

B) Start writing blogs and promote it

C) Sign up for affiliate marketing

D) Provide Consulting where you are an expert

E) Meet likeminded people in your niche and try  offering to coach related to that niche

F) Try offering designs online or ideas for design online such as fashion design, web design, interior design etc

G) Try providing online tutoring/Online teaching

H) Try offering any service related to Home office

I) Try offering advice related to Home fitness.  So be a coach and try offering home-based  fitness and healthy living can be part of this

J) Try offering home-cooked food

K) Find opportunities to make money through social media and this applies to business owners as well

L) If you are a business owner then you have to promote and the wrong thing to do at this stage is no promotion which means no action and no action is certainly the worst action and that means you guessed it right.

So these are few tips and suggestions from my end and I may do a few of the above and you may see which one fits you the most.  You may try something else which is not listed here and the idea is every one of us has something unique to offer to the marketplace, so try to find out what it is and scale it
